How does this generate income in a short amount of time? In the credit spread strategy the trader buys and sells options with different strike prices, establishing a spread position. When the option sold is more expensive than the option purchased, a net credit results which becomes your profit. Credit spreads offer traders an excellent limited-risk strategy, which profit from the decay of time value within the options. Another great reason for learning credit spreads is this strategy does NOT require any movement of the underlying stock to produce a profit. Companies split their stock when they believe the lowering of their stock price will make their stock more affordable to the smaller trader/investors. By reducing the price of the stock, companies tend to attract more buyers for their stock. When a company declares a stock split, the price of the stock will decrease, but the number of shares will increase. For example, a company declares a two for one (2-1) stock split and you own 1000 shares of a company that trades at $50/share after the split occurs you will then own a total of 2000 shares at $25/share after the split. A stock split has no effect on the value of what shareholders own, but can increase the number of shares that you own. Straddles are a great strategy to use if a trader expects a stock's price will move significantly, but is unsure as to direction. The straddle allows you to simply place the positions and then profit no matter if the stock goes up or down. The key to the straddle being effective is the stock must move significantly in order for the trader to make a profit. If the stock does not move or should only a small movement in price occur in either direction, the trader will lose on the trade. This would be a strategy to use on the most volatile of stocks. How do we make money on this strategy? While one leg of the straddle loses up to its limit, the other leg continues to gain as long as the underlying stock rises, resulting in profit. Or likewise, if one leg of the straddle loses up to its limit, the other leg continues to gain as long as the underlying stock decreases in value. Up, down, who cares! What is a gap? Very simple put, a gap is the difference between the close of one candlestick on a given time frame and open of the next. A time when a trader will notice these the most is when a stock ends the day at one price, only to open the next morning at another. What causes gaps? Gaps are less influenced by the overall condition of the market and more by the NEWS occurring in that particular stock. These gaps can occur even in a slow or choppy market, all due to NEWS. Using gap types can help determine which trades could become the most profitable, and help you stay out of those that are “just a gap.” Are there different kind of gaps that occur?
